MY MEMORIES

School

When I started school in the first grade, I used to wait until I got to school to use the toilet, especially in the winter. There was no preschool of any kind and the school had no kindergarten. All of the lower grades had two classes per room. I was only 5 1/2 years old when I started the first grade. School was not easy for me and I remember that I had a great deal of difficulty learning to read. There was some question as to whether I would be passed out of the first grade into second grade because of my lack of reading ability. It basically didn't ever improve at the normal rate which made school a struggle for years to come.
